Our dedicated staff:
Stephen Mills
Mr. Stephen Mills has been our Head Teacher since September 2001. Trained at The Battersea College of Education between 1971 and 1974 and then qualified for a T.E.F.L. Certificate from Shoreditch shortly afterward.
Mr. Mills has thirty five years teaching experience both in London and South Wales, duties encompassing class teacher, deputy head teacher and acting head teacher. Mr. Mills has recently achieved a B.A. Humanities degree from the Open University together with a National Professional Qualification for Head teachers (N.P.Q.H.).
Mr. Mills interests include travel, architecture, music and history.
Sue Evans
Mrs. Susan Evans teaches Class 1, a mixed group of years 1 and 2, she has taught at Llanvair since 2001. Born and bred in Abergavenny Mrs. Evans attended King Henry VIII school before undergoing teacher training.
She has 3 teenage children, her interests are keeping fit and renovating the family’s French cottage.
Debbie White
Miss. Debbie White is the latest addition to the school staff, having started with us in September 2008. She is a qualified Level 3 Teaching Assistant and is responsible for the Foundation Stage, together with helping out Mrs. Evans with Year 2.
Miss White’s interests are walking swimming and reading.
Mrs Elizabeth Watkins
Worthy of special mention is Mrs. Elisabeth Watkins, a fully qualified Home Economics teacher, Mrs. Watkins took early retirement from Caerleon Comprehensive School and joined Llanvair in 1991.
Mrs. Watkins provides cover for the regular staffs’ non teaching ‘protected time’. Amongst a huge range of abilities, Mrs. Watkins organises the School Council, teaches Design and Technology and provides short notice cover for sickness and absence etc.
Mrs. Watkins plays a large part in the smooth running of the school and kindly provides her services entirely voluntarily.
Mrs Brain
Mrs. Meryl Brain, having spent her full time teaching career in Bristol is now Llanvair’s regular voluntary supply teacher. She has taught both KS1 and KS2 here since 2003.
As well as helping out the regular staff her interests include travel, keep fit and cruising the Monmouth and Brecon canal.
Susan Jeffries
Acting School Support Officer Mrs. Susan Jeffries is often the first point of contact you will have with Llanvair.
Mrs. Jeffries has a multitude of duties, all pivotal to the day to day smooth running of the school. Her duties range from collecting dinner money and cheerfully answering the telephone to producing school newsletters and organising Mr. Mill’s busy schedule.
